Project Home

Project Home is the PUUC Special Collection recipient for October. In 2019, people in Keene came together to form a nonprofit, all volunteer organization to provide financial, legal, housing and supportive help to asylum seekers. When they first arrive in the U.S., asylum seekers are not legally allowed to work, until certain papers have been processed. There are often long delays in the processing of these paper.

Project Home has reported the following snapshots of some of their clients accomplishments in the past year.

  • A South American father undertook a grueling 48-day journey to bring his two-year-old to her mother who was being hosted with a family in the Monadnock area.
  • Another reunited family was able to move from supported housing to live independently.
  • The oldest son of a family who came as Project Home’s first set of  guests, has just received his acceptance to Keene State College. With support from Project Home, his artistic talents were recognized and nurtured at special summer programs.
  • Another guest is working hard toward becoming a licensed electrician.
  • A guest received her Work Authorization and is starting work at a bakery in Brattleboro.
