MATS and Shelter from the Storm

Homelessness in New Hampshire

According to the New Hampshire Coalition On Homelessness, 4600 people in NH were homeless this past year and the problem is only getting worse. Mortgage rates have skyrocketed and there is a lack of affordable rental property, leading many young people to leave the state entirely.

PUUC, in its special collection this month,  will be supporting MATS (Monadnock area transitional shelter)  and Shelter From The Storm, both of whom provide what will hopefully be short-term, temporary housing as people get “back on their feet” and find permanent housing.  However, “temporary” housing times are becoming longer & longer as people search for a place that is open & which they can afford. Unfortunately, this then creates a need for more temporary housing.

For more information please see: www.matsnh.org or https://shelterfromthestormnh.org/

We here cannot solve everything, but please support MATS and Shelter From The Storm as generously as you are able. both shelters house people until they find affordable housing.

Please make your checks out to PUUC, with the shelter you wish to support on the memo line or use the online giving platform below.  They will receive up to a $500 match from our Social Justice Endowment Fund.
