While it is essential not to co-opt or misappropriate Indigenous knowledge and practice, Leaf suggests that we all recover our indigeneity--not by claiming membership in tribal nations or sitting in sweat lodges, but by returning to the ground of being, re-membering, re-embodying ourselves within the body of earth to which we inherently belong.
The great late Irish poet philosopher John O'Donohue wrote, “Your identity is not equivalent to your biography. There is a place in you where you have never been wounded, where there is still a sureness in you, where there is a seamlessness in you, and where there is a confidence and tranquility in you. You can – whenever you like – visit that inner sanctuary. It is always within you. It is who you are.”
Leaf was ordained as UU minister, and, in retirement continues in community ministry. Please welcome her back.
